The process for becoming a member of ElderSpirit Community at Trailview is based on person(s) becoming acquainted with the mission and values of the community. We hope to provide enough information to help you determine if this living situation fits with your own values and life style.

2. If you are interested in continuing the process after your review, please contact Catherine Rumschlag at her home, 276-619-5544, or by email at crumschlag@embarqmail.com to go on to the next step. She will set up a time for you to visit and have an introductory conversation with members of the Membership Committee, when you will have an opportunity to ask questions and get better acquainted. We want you to understand as much as possible about the realities of living in ElderSpirit Community. If after careful deliberation you would like to continue you may request an application.
3. Fill out the application and return it to Catherine Rumschlag, 192 Highland Street, Abingdon, VA 24210. After reading your application, the Membership Committee will make arrangements for an interview with you.
4. Attend a meeting of the ResidentsÕ Association in Abingdon (held on the
second Saturday of every month) as you are able.
5. Interview with two or three members of the Membership Committee. We may ask
you to enlarge upon your application, and we will answer any questions you may
have. We will also discuss the steps involved in purchase or rental of the
units.
6. When an owner wishes to sell, the arrangement is made between the seller and a person on the waiting list. When a rental unit is available, those on the waiting list will be required to give evidence that their income meets certain guidelines for government financed housing. Ten one-bedroom units must be rented to people whose maximum income is $17,150 for one person, $19,600 for two people. Six two-bedroom units may be rented to people with a maximum income of $27,450 for one person, $31,350 for two. Rent payment should not exceed 30% of income unless there is a subsidy.
